• Serving Sussex, Lannon and Lisbon in Waukesha County

The Sussex Area Chamber of Commerce was founded in 2000 to create a positive business environment in the Sussex and Lisbon communities. While the history of SACC may not be lengthy, the organization was built on the foundation of a previous business organization that had existed since 1981, the Sussex-Lisbon Business and Professional Association. The Sussex-Lisbon Business and Professional Association, commonly referred to as SLBPA, was the forerunner to the current chamber organization. The goal of SLBPA was to promote and recognize individuals in business and professional careers with an emphasis on community involvement. SLPBA activities included a community open house, scholarships for local students, Santa Lunch, Christmas Lights on Main Street and tours of local businesses. For most, however, the most popular aspect of SLBPA membership was attendance at monthly meetings where members enjoyed lunch with one another while sharing news about business and community developments. A featured speaker at each meeting gave a brief talk on a topic with community relevance.

Talks about establishing a chamber of commerce surfaced in response to needs for a network to promote business activities in the community. Businesses wanted an organization to help support them as they addressed complex issues facing small businesses such as health care, taxes, business growth, workforce changes and marketing. The Sussex Area Chamber of Commerce emerged in 2000 with a small, but committed group of members. Since its early days, chamber membership, as well as the Sussex community, has diversified and grown steadily.
